How to get your website listed in Google

Not because you have website means that it is being indexed by Google’s search engine. If you are not sure that your website is appearing on Google results, then go to www.google.com and search your website domain, e.g. www.yourdomain.com.

If the displayed result is “site not found”, it means that the website is not present in the Google index.

Here’s how to add your domain to the Google index:

Go to www.google.com/addurl

and enter your website domain for submission in to the Google directory.

This is called ’search engine submission’ and is a complimentary service of DF Design Studios for all our websites.

How to check when a domain expires and who owns it

Ever tried to register a domain name to find it already taken? Well, there is a website where you can view not only who owns the domain, but also see when that domain name expires.

Whois.net allows you to see who owns the domain name as well as the nameserver settings (where its hosted).

Try out your domain name and see if any of your information comes up.

You may get an unpleasant surprise to see your name, address, phone number, etc. on file as the owner of the domain. If you don’t like your information out there like that you can pay extra for privacy.

How to extract the white out of a Photoshop document

Here is a quick and easy way to take out the white in an image in Photoshop. This applies to any white area on the image. The conventional way to do something like this is making use of the magic wand tool in Photoshop. Here I’ll show you how to extract the white out or any color for that matter in just a few clicks.

See the image of the lion below. I’m going to show you how to extract the white out.

1. Select the image layer and make sure that the layer is unlocked

2. While the layer is still selected click, on Select/Color Range, the Color Range dialog box opens up

3. Use the pointer and select any white area on the image

4. Use the fuzziness range to determine your best result

5. Click OK

6. Press Ctrl-X to cut……thats it!!!

I already have a domain….What is hosting? Why do I need it?

Most people know what a domain name is, but many don’t have a clue what web hosting is or how important it is. A domain name is the actual web address for your website, (e.g. www.mybusiness.com). Hosting is the space on a server/computer that stores all the files, data, web pages, emails etc. for your website.{++}

Consider this:

When you register a business name, its just a name, but that business would need a place, office, building, to store the info for that business…e.g. to store files, client data, equipment, information etc….this is just like a domain name and hosting…..having a domain name just means that you own the rights to the name, but in order to have a website you would need some type of hosting in order to ’store’ the info, files, images etc for that website….

We are pleased to be working with WOWWMIN an International ministry with offices in the US and Trinidad. Women of Worship & Warfare Ministries is hosting a conference in October this year in Trinidad for which we are doing a website for.

Want Google to take your website seriously? Here is one thing you need to know and do!

Most people when they now start off their website they only register their domain name for one year, in an effort to not spend as much money upfront. But so do the SPAM websites! Most Spam websites only register domain names for one year.

Why is this important?

Because, Google can hold it against you if your domain is registered only for one year. If your domain is registered for more years, it will imply that the website is more likely to be legitimate and serious.

This is just one of the unusual things that Google considers when indexing and ranking a website.

We recommend that you register your domain for at least 5 years or more. A full term is 10 years, thats the longest a domain can be registered for.

So What’s the next step?

Go ahead and renew your domain for at least 5 more years. There is nothing to lose!

We have recently gained a few clients as a result of they not being able to get in contact with their webdesigner. One of my new clients said that they can’t get in touch with the person doing their website and how it is hurting her business and holding her back from doing what she needs to do to market her business.

I’ve heard this many times and even blogged on ‘What to look for in a Webdesigner‘ , I think the problem with many of the webdesigners out there is their lack of business ethics, customer service, and most of all integrity. Even though they are good at what they do the lack of these makes what they do as nothing.
